Jenny Lecoat in conversation / Soroptimist International, Jersey

Film Festivals are mostly about watching coming across exciting new films (of course) but they also offer opportunities to meet the people who make them, and take part in creative projects.

This year, 13th Parish will be presenting Jenny Lecoat ‘in conversation’ at the Jersey Arts Centre. Jenny is a renowned author and screenwriter from Jersey who began her profesional career in the UK stand-up comedy scene. She will share her story in words and pictures, in conversation with fellow writer, Simon Macdonald.

Jenny  was born and raised in Jersey. After a Drama degree at Birmingham University she made her name in the UK stand-up comedy scene of the 1980s, later becoming a TV & radio presenter and features contributor. She became a full-time screenwriter in 1994, writing for EastEnders, Birds of a Feather, The Catherine Tate show and a range of children’s series before moving into drama and film, specialising in historical and factual stories. Her feature film Another Mother’s Son (2017) told the story of her own family’s resistance to the Occupation of the Channel Islands. Her debut novel, Hedy’s War, based on another true Occupation story, was published in the UK in May 2020 by Birlinn and in a number of other countries over the next year.

This award has been kindly sponsored by the Soroptimist International Jersey.
